Our Beliefs

Our Beliefs

We believe that there is one true God who exists in three persons - God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:18-19, 2 Corinthians 13:14, Hebrews 1:1-4)

We believe that Jesus Christ is God in the flesh who came to all the world to offer the only solution to sin - a holy sacrifice. (Philippians 2:5-8, Luke 2:40, John 1:1-5, Hebrews 4:15)

We believe that the Holy Spirit permanently lives in every believer providing assurance, strength, and wisdom. He also uniquely gives each believer gifts for the building up of His church. (John 16:7-11, 1 Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 4:30)

We believe that the Bible is the inspired and infallible Word of God revealed to mankind. (2 Timothy 3:16-17, Romans 15:4)

We believe that salvation (the forgiveness of sins) is not linked to church membership, works, good deeds, heritage, or genealogy, but rather faith alone in Jesus Christ. (John 1:12, John 3:16, Romans 3:23-25)

We believe becoming a Christian begins with starting a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. (John 3:1-15, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 5:17-20)

We believe that the Church exists to reflect who God is and bring glory to Himself. (Matthew 16:18-19, Acts 2:41-47, Ephesians 1:22-23)

We believe the remedy for sin is a renewed life based on faith in Jesus Christ. (Romans 5:6-9, Galatians 3:13-14)

We believe that baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper are the two ordinances of the church. (Matthew 28:19, Luke 22:14-23, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)

Membership

Why should I become a member?

While the New Testament makes no direct argument for our modern concept of membership, the New Testament assumes some form of committed, accountable belonging as a reality for every true follower of Jesus. In fact according to the first century culture, to be excluded from the local church was to be excluded from fellowship with Christ and with His people. Further, the scripture instructs that each Christian has a definite place of service within the local body of believers we know as the church.

Here at FBC Bellevue, we believe that God has gifted each member with unique abilities and talents that are vital to the ministry of the local church. We also believe that God intends for us to live out the Christian life in community. Living in community is more than just loose associations or casual acquaintance. It is committing to be there for each other even when life is hard.

How do I become a member?

FBC Bellevue is a family of believers in Jesus Christ. You can become a member of in one of four ways:

  1. Accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and being scripturally baptized by immersion as a demonstration of your faith in Christ.

  2. If you have already accepted Jesus, but have not been scripturally baptized, you may come to be presented as a candidate for baptism.

  3. By letter - transfer of membership from another Baptist church of like faith and order.

  4. By statement of faith - if you have trusted in Christ for salvation and have been scripturally baptized, you may join the church after a brief visit with the pastor in order to work through the details of your individual situation.

When you are ready to join our church, you may come forward at the invitation time of our service. Our Pastor will meet you and answer any questions you may have about joining our congregation.
